S-DIAT Signal Interference with Plasma TV

Recently there is a case on our Home Theatre System with the interference on the Plasma TV. Since some Plasma TVs have very high frequency and affect our wireless transmission (S-DIAT).

It is also a chance of promoting benefit of LCD technology, and our BRAVIA TV!

• S-DIAT Wireless Transmission affected by some Plasma TV;
• Some plasma TVs have infrared (IR) rays pass through the color filter of the Plasma panel;
• High frequency released from the Plasma affect the rear speaker wireless transmission;
• As a result, IR emitted from Plasma interfered the signal transmitted to the rear speaker;
• Solutions provided to customer is to suggest them to connect the rear speaker by cable;
• Not all plasma TV will affect S-DIAT system.

We always emphasis our product offers the best picture quality in different grade of level in LCD market. Well... It really depends on promoters' presentation skill. By 2007 - ATV and TVB to commence simulcast
By 2008 - ATV and TVB should achieve at least 75% digital coverage
By 2012 - Target to switch off analogue broadcasting

High-Definition Digital Broadcasting?

Besides our HD World, there is an external factor to push the "HD" concept. It is Digital Broadcasting. However, be reminded that they are 2 different concepts:

• High Definition (HD) : Digital broadcasts with either 1,080 active scan lines in interlaced format—called "1,080i"— or 720 lines in progressive format—called"720p" as defined by the Advanced Television Systems Committee. (from: http://www.learningcenter.sony.us)
• Digital Broadcast : To send a digital stream of information to your television set, a TV station takes tiny slices of the video image, assigns a numeric value to describe each slice, and mathematically encodes those values into equations... (from: http://www.learningcenter.sony.us) In contrast of analog broadcasting, digital broadcast provide better transmittion, because the structure of digital signal is simple (0 or 1) and it is basically strength. (It is very technical and you may find such information in google)

In future, we can enjoy the HD Digital Broadcast TV in Hong Kong. It is relatively late comparing to Japan, US, Europe and China. :(

The format and broadcasting information is not released in HK yet, so how come can we see "HD Ready" in the TV market?

It is not a trick. Since we don't have confirmed information from government, we cannot say that we offer "HDTV". We only can offer "HD-Ready" TVs

• HDTV Ready : Sony's term for a set that doesn't have a built-in digital tuner, but can show high definition broadcasts in true high-definition resolution... To receive digital signals for the sets, however, consumers have to buy a separate HD receiver box (ClubEddy guest it will be bundled with Broadcasting Provider companies).

Let's see that is HDTV:

• A TV set with a built-in digital tuner that can show high-definition broadcasts in true high-definition resolution.
• Also refers to the broadcasts themselves.
• According to CEA (US, not for HK), a fully integrated television set will receive all ATSC terrestrial digitaltransmissions and decode all ATSC Table 3 video formats.
• It must display activevertical scanning lines of 720 progressive (720p), 1080 interlaced (1080i), or higher
• in a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio.
• It must also receive and decode or pass-through for decoding Dolby® Digital audio.
• It must also receive and decode or pass through ford ecoding 5.1 digital surround sound.
• According to the FCC, "HDTV is the best qualityTV".
